Hovnanian stock rallies after big profit rise, raised outlook even as home demand continues to slow
Shares of Hovnanian Enterprises Inc. HOV, +2.37% leapt 3.2% in afternoon trading Thursday, to bounce off the previous session's 19-month closing low, after the home builder a big jump in fiscal third-quarter profit and lifted its full-year outlook, despite signs of a slowing housing market. Net income for the quarter to July 31 rose to $79.95 million, or $10.82 a share, from $47.70 million, or $6.72 a share, in the year-ago period.

Hovnanian stock surges toward 5th-straight gain after adjusted earnings triple, gross margin improves
Shares of Hovnanian Enterprises Inc. HOV, +7.18% surged 6.4% toward a fifth-straight gain in morning trading Wednesday, after the home builder reported fiscal second-quarter earnings that more than tripled, when excluding the benefit of last year's valuation allowance reduction, and gross margin that improved by more than five percentage points. Net income for the quarter to April 30 was $59.8 million, or $8.39 a share, after income of $488.7 million, or $69.65 a share, in the year-ago period.
